Roger Vivier, the eponymous Maison of the man known as the “Fabergé of footwear” has been making women’s dreams come true since 1937, when Monsieur Roger Vivier opened his own boutique at 22 rue Royale in Paris. For decades, his creations have adorned the feet of the most desirable and most powerful women all over the world: Marlène Dietrich, HRM Queen Elizabeth II of England, Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor, Josephine Baker and Catherine Deneuve, among many others. At 90 years old, Roger Vivier was as sharp and creative as ever, drawing his shoes in the air with quick strokes of his hands as he recalled them, with the modesty of the consummate artist and the dazzled air of one who has spent his life at women’s feet.
Pushing the limits of conventional design, while still respecting the golden rules of balance, Vivier sculpted audacious but pure heel lines: Aiguille, Choc, Virgule, and Polichinelle, to name but a few, thus changing the fashion landscape forever. His visionary work has received prestigious awards and has been highlighted in exhibitions at the most esteemed museums, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Palais Galliera and Musée des Arts de la Mode in Paris.
The Maison Roger Vivier stands for absolute mastery of technique, creativity and rarity – a heritage that continues to this day. With Ines de la Fressange, the Maison’s ambassador who infuses a fresh, vibrant energy into the Roger Vivier universe, the Maison is constantly pushed forward into the future. While its Italian artisans work on perfecting the balance between Roger Vivier’s heritage and a modern aesthetic, Ines not only acts as ambassador, but also collaborates with other teams that make up Roger Vivier: artisans, press, and brand strategy. She is the Maison’s eternal muse and embodiment of the Vivier woman – stylish, smart, and ready to take on the world.
Today, Roger Vivier continues to evolve with its Creative Director, Gherardo Felloni, who joined the Maison in March 2018.
An aficionado of the arts and an eclectic collector – as was Monsieur Vivier – Felloni brings his artistic passion and unique flair for design into a Maison that appreciates visionary thinking. For his first collection, Felloni studied the vast archives, taking in the codes of the house but at the same time creating something totally new and contemporary, making Maison Roger Vivier as relevant as ever.
