Women in Balance Exhibition at Museo Salvatore Ferragamo

Women in Balance Exhibition at Museo Salvatore Ferragamo

Culture / Fashion house - 5/20/22

19 May 2022. The exhibition Women in Balance opened in Florence at Museo Salvatore Ferragamo today. It is a tribute to Wanda Miletti Ferragamo who, from 1960 until her death in 2018 was the solid, forward-thinking head of the Salvatore Ferragamo fashion brand.

In August 1960, when her husband Salvatore died, Wanda made a choice that was cultural, in the fullest sense of the word, to continue the business her husband had left behind, transforming a women’s shoe company into a fashion house, where her children could keep alive Salvatore’s legacy of dedication, innovation and creativity.

This exhibition reveals the unique, multi-faceted essence of Wanda Ferragamo and, as she would have wanted, also tells the stories of many other women who, between the late 1950s and the early 1960s found a way to balance their personal and professional fulfilment with their family lives.

It offers a glimpse of Italian society after the Second World War, at a time when sweeping social transformations were underway and women could be seen rising to the fore.
