Molli Fall/Winter 2017
17/07/2018 - Margaux Warin

Molli, the reference for luxury knits, celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2016. Born in Switzerland, the brand started by specializing in baby clothing. The revival of the brand is due to Charlotte de Fayet, who took it over in 2015, when she launched a line of women’s ready-to-wear in addition to the production of layettes. She has built a sophisticated and delicate luxurious wardrobe. The designs are made in Italy and France, mixing quality wools and cottons with refined details. A successful gamble for Charlotte de Fayet who has successfully relaunched the brand by bringing together ancestral savoir-faire and modernity, creating timeless and subtle collections.

Which artists inspire you the most?

Nicolas de Staël for his extraordinary mastering of color, Shoji Ueda for the poetry and softness of his photos, Egon Schiele for the intensity of his paintings.

Describe your FallWinter 2017 collection in 3 words:

Feminine, timeless, sophisticated. Like every season really, but we play with volume and stitching; this season our tops have wide sleeves et our bottoms high waists to create a slender figure, and classic colors such as black and cream can be combined with bright reds or a luminous and elegant magenta.

What is your biggest inspiration?

…women I see on the street in St Germain des Prés, my neighborhood in Paris, women who have a simple Parisian elegance… otherwise street photographers capture an attitude, a detail of a piece of clothing in their photos, especially those of Robert Frank, Vivan Maier, Henri Cartier Bresson.

Where was the last place you travelled to which inspired you?

The United-States, most notably Yellow Stone where time has stopped, nature is queen, majestic, serene, unchanging, reassuring.

Which is your favorite piece from your latest collection, and why?

An oversized sweater with a graphic collar, a polyvalent piece which can be worn in the office, at yoga straight after and to dinner with some earrings to make it chic.. It is worked in the brand’s iconic garter stitch, made in Italy with extrafine pure virgin wool.

What is your mantra?

« Our second life starts when we realize we only have one », it’s simple but it helps when making a choice, committing to something, or deciding to keep going when we hesitate.

Which women inspire you the most?

Women who are intense and discreet, for example Charlotte Rampling or Sofia Coppola, but also Natalia Vodianova who seems to have a huge heart, so committed to helping through her charity.

The film that speaks most to your aesthetic?

« L’amant » directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, because of the the troubling and emotional story the film tells, as well as the elegant and glamorous costumes.

What was your first aesthetic ‘coup de foudre’?

I remember being amazed by « the Cathedral » on a school outing to the Musée Rodin. Two right hands, not touching but between which there is a huge energy, everything is said in a whisper. I find that much grace in stone technically bluffing.

If you could live in any era, which one would you choose?

I would stay in this one…I think it’s incredible how much easier technology has made urban life, Uber, Frichti, Airbnb, Amazon, houra.fr, all these time-saving apps which deliver to your home, all these low-cost companies to discover the world, and Instagram to discover brands, places, photographers, exhibitions, it’s great…

Who is the Molli woman in a sentence?

A woman who is between 30-50 years old, who loves fashion without being a fashion victim, who carefully chooses her clothes for their quality, their story, who wants to be elegant, cool, and comfortable to live a happy life.
