For PORTS 1961, the white shirt has a longstanding presence and heritage that dates back to the label’s beginnings 60 years ago.
The Essential Edit, which launched in September 2021, was designed by PORTS 1961 Artistic Director Karl Templer, working with Tonne Goodman, Vogue’s Sustainability Editor, inspired by their shared admiration for the beauty of a simple white shirt, the cornerstone of a timeless wardrobe, all made with organic cotton.
The students of L’École Duperré’s MA in Fashion Design were invited by PORTS 1961 to re-interpret this iconic piece, resulting in ten shirts, each imagined by a student through their personal perspective on art and sustainability, and how these translate into fashion.
The students also created a special window installation for the PORTS 1961 Paris flagship on rue Saint Honoré to highlight the collaboration. Together, the emerging designers took the lead in curating all elements of the installation incuding creative concept, music and scenography.
This collaboration with the École Duperré has presented PORTS 1961 with the opportunity to open a dialogue with the next generation of young creatives, and has offered the students a real life experience with the challenges of sustainability and bringing to life one’s own vision through fashion.
