Sterling Ruby's S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. - a new selection of 'UNIQUE,' one-of-a-kind pieces hand-created by Sterling Ruby - simultaneously garments and artworks.

Each UNIQUE garment is given a tag with a signature, date, and inventory number entered into the same database used for tracking Sterling Ruby’s artwork catalogue.

Given the immediacy of these one-off, hand-created pieces, the newest selection is a direct reflection of Sterling Ruby’s response to the current climate. In particular, featured covers of some of Ruby’s favorite books provide timely sociopolitical commentary: Hannah Arendt’s “On Violence” and “Men in Dark Times,” George Orwell’s “Notes on Nationalism,” Audre Lorde’s “The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle The Master’s House,” Jack Kerouac’s “Piers of the Homeless Night,” and James Baldwin’s “Dark Days” among others.

These book covers are set against autobiographical references such as Death Angel band t-shirts the artist has long worn and motifs from his art universe like caves, candles and werewolves.
