2021 Edition now including Ready to Wear
Following the sold-out success of the brand’s 2020 edition, JW Anderson is happy to announce the 2nd limited-edition Tom of Finland capsule available exclusively at JWAnderson.com and with partners SSENSE and CULTUREEDIT. The collection will be available exclusively at JW Anderson’s Soho London store from 11 June and online from 14 June.
The capsule collection for 2021 expands on the accessories offered previously with an assortment of ready-to-wear options featuring an untitled image by the artist. A t-shirt, hoodie, shirt and shorts feature a provocative drawing of a man in the unmistakable style of Tom of Finland, leather boots, gloves, cap and not much else. Accessories include a felt tote bag and a leather baguette handbag featuring the drawing in red and white as well as Tom of Finland-inspired key rings and Cap bags with plenty of studs and piercings.
Tom of Finland (born in Finland in 1920) began producing thousands of images in the 1940s. His work challenged homophobic stereotypes by portraying hyper-masculine archetypes such as bikers, cops, cowboys, lumberjacks, as proud enthusiasts of gay sex. Tom of Finland is the creator of some of the
most iconic and readily recognizable imagery of post-war gay culture and is regarded as one of the 20th century’s most influential artists.
“We had such a good time working on the first collection and working with the Foundation was a pleasure,” said Anderson about the second round of the capsule. “As a gay man and a designer, Tom of Finland has always fascinated me. I collect all types of art including his drawings. To be able to use them
in a JW Anderson collection is so exciting. I am really proud of this year’s collection and love that we were able to expand it to include ready-to-wear.”
In 1984, Tom of Finland and his friend Durk Dehner established Tom of Finland Foundation with the purpose to preserve Tom’s vast catalogue of work and offer a safe haven for all erotic art. The Foundation works actively in educating the public in promoting healthier, more tolerant attitudes about sexuality. JW Anderson is proud to support the Foundation via the capsule.
From 11 June, customers who shop the Tom of Finland collection at the JW Anderson Soho London flagship store and spend 250£ or more can take home their very own 15 inch tall posable Tom of Finland (ready-for) action figure with interchangeable…appendages. While supplies last.
The Tom of Finland collection will be available from 11 June at the JW Anderson London Soho Flagship (2 Brewer Street, W1F 0SA) and from 14 June at JWAnderson.com SSENSE.com and CULTUREEDIT.COM (Los Angeles).
