Fashion house - 7/2/21

Off-White™ and its founder and creative director Virgil Abloh are proud to announce the opening of the Paris flagship store, created with the ambition of being an incubator for new talent, a cultural connector within the community and an experimental laboratory of creativity and innovation. A destination to get immersed into the Off-White™ world. Located at the intersection of Rue de Castiglione and Rue du Mont Thabor, the retrofitted 19th century space stands as an embodiment of the brand’s evolution: from streetwear roots to luxe formality, Off-White™ Paris physically and geographically represents both a milestone and a crossroads.

The flagship—developed with AMO, the think tank branch of the architecture firm OMA—fuses Abloh’s magpie sensibilities with a calibration of Parisian elegance and industrial edge. Myriad internal spaces offer distinct atmospheres and personalities; there’s a courtyard, a market, a gallery and a stage extending over three floors, with each room reflecting Off-White™ ’s diverse background and identity.

“Working with AMO is a synergistic process,” says Abloh. “The way we ideate is similar—nothing is off limits—and the outcome at Off-White Paris is greater than I could have ever imagined."

The flagship’s main entrance is located on Rue de Castiglione, through a semi-circular vestibule of corrugated glass. The ground floor’s is a space conceived as a creative canvas to showcase local creativity, a platform to amplify the voices of the community; this area also stocks Off-White’s most exclusive and experimental pieces cross gender and functions as a hub for collaborations and special projects. Befitting Abloh’s examination of contrasts, the flagship’s entrance on Rue du Mont Thabor opens up to what feels like a completely different location. Pale blue walls and a black terrazzo floor—filled with custom designed furniture—invoke a Parisian flea market. The gallery area here showcases Off-White’s coveted brand partnerships, including a dedicated space featuring select Nike product.

On the upper floors, an intimate atmosphere prevails through the mezzanine where a curation of objects from exclusive capsules to Off-White’s Homeware collection. With a low ceiling and strategically placed windows, this section also stocks kid’s, as well as an exhibition hall.

The third floor goes back to the roots of the brand and carries Off-White’s most iconic and beloved items, from denim to sneakers, in a high-ceilinged room with ample natural light, and houses a café in partnership with % Arabica, the Kyoto, Japan-based boutique coffee company from Kenneth Shoji, an inviting space for shoppers and locals to gather and connect in the Off-White universe.

Additional juxtaposed arrangements of colors and textures further emphasize the store’s dynamism. Limestone arches, exposed plasterboards, silver chandeliers developed in collaboration with the Dutch designer Tim Hooijmans, mint green glazed wall tiles, steel grating and exposed wooden beams all contribute to the mix. The result? An abstract reinterpretation of Paris, then and now. Paris, then, in quotation marks.

On July 2nd and 3rd, Off-White™ Paris will host “Imaginary FM,” a twist on a radio station that will air ahead of the Fall/Winter 2021 collection reveal on July 4th. “Imaginary FM” marks an evolution of Off-White’s “Imaginary TV” concept, in which multi-hyphenate creatives and individuals showcase and discuss various topics, music styles, work, and more, across a boundary-less medium. “Imaginary FM” will see 20 performances and segments over July 2nd and July 3rd, with a kick off by Tatyana Jane, appearances by Trinice McNally (I Support Black Women) and Jaimee Swift (Black Women Radicals), Bonnie Banane, Yard, Aleqs Notal, La Créole and collectives of creatives bringing their own style to the Off-White™ airwaves.
