Grand Partner of the International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Fashion Accessories in Hyères since 2014, CHANEL has further reinforced its support of festival activities by creating, for its 34th annual event, the Métiers d’art Prize. This award, in keeping with the House’s continuous commitment to creation, highlights the dynamic modernity of the savoir-faire at CHANEL’s Métiers d’art.
The first Métiers d’art Prize has been awarded to the best collaboration between ten competing fashion designers and ten of CHANEL’s Métiers d’art: Desrues, the Ateliers de Verneuil-en-Halatte, Lemarié, Maison Michel, Massaro, Lesage, Goossens, Atelier Montex, Causse and Lognon. The Fashion jury has chosen Irish Róisín Pierce for her collaboration with Maison Michel. The House of CHANEL offers the winner the chance to collaborate with the Métiers d’art of her choice on a new creative project up to the value of 20,000 euros, which will be unveiled next year at the 35th festival.
All of the projects made for the Métiers d’art Prize demonstrated the creative vitality born from the collaboration between the finalists and the different CHANEL Métiers d’art. Thanks to the talent of the ateliers and their drive for innovation, the ten finalists were able to focus on pushing the limits of creativity: Dita Enikova and the House of Lemarié made a transparent PVC coat covered in feathers, Manami Toda, Youta Anazawa and Tetsuya Doi made a long pleated skirt with the House of Lognon, Emilia Kuurila and the House of Causse made two pairs of men’s bi-material gloves, Milla Lintilä and the Atelier Montex made two pieces of embroidered knitwear, Yana Monk and the House of Desrues made metal finger jewellery, Róisín Pierce and Maison Michel made white headpieces from broderie anglaise and ruching, Christoph Rumpf and the House of Massaro made a pair of draped booties, Tina Schwizgebel and the House of Goossens made jewellery sculpted from metal and ceramics, Tsung-Chien Tang and the Ateliers de Verneuil-en-Halatte made a series of nomadic masculine bag accessories, and Lucille Thievre and the House of Lesage made embroideries inspired by the tapestries of artist Jean Lurçat, sewn onto the sleeves of two tops and two leather bags.
CHANEL is also once again supporting the winners of the Première Vision Grand Prix du Jury and the Swarovski Grand Prix du Jury Accessoires de mode. Austrian Christoph Rumpf and Spanish Noelia Morales will each have the opportunity to collaborate with CHANEL’s Métiers d’art on a project worth up to 20,000 euros. Christoph Rumpf and Noelia Morales will thus be able to develop one or several silhouettes or accessories with the House of their choice, and their creations will be presented during the 35th edition of the festival.
CHANEL is likewise accompanying the Grand Prix du Jury Photographie, by awarding an endowment of 20,000 euros to the winner, South-African Alice Mann.
In addition to being associated with these four prizes, CHANEL is the main benefactor of the permanent exhibition Charles et Marie-Laure de Noailles, une vie de mécènes, at the Villa Noailles, as well as the official partner of the make-up booth for the festival’s runway shows.
Through this Métiers d’art Prize and this renewed partnership with the International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Fashion Accessories in Hyères, CHANEL reaffirms its attachment to both creativity and the avant-garde.
