“A sunset is at once ephemeral and perpetual, a moment that’s unique and yet eternally renewed. The same goes for perfume, which is at once elusive and always true.” Jacques Cavallier Belletrud
Travel. Always and forever. Louis Vuitton pursues the captivating, sensorial journey of Cologne Perfumes, an unprecedented concept that illustrates the special marriage of citrusy mist with the depth of flowers. Its enchanting tryptic includes Sun Song, a melody on a beautiful day; Cactus Garden, a promenade across an exotic patio; and Afternoon Swim, a dive into an ocean of pleasure. Now, California Dream completes this luminous collection. California Dream, the new Cologne Perfume by Louis Vuitton, portrays the enchantment of a sunset, a moment that prolongs the happiness of a summer’s day.
The West Coast ambiance is untamed, sultry, wildly creative open territory. An ideal atmosphere for a fragrance collection that blends the spontaneity of Colognes with the sophistication of perfumes. It’s the lengthening of a perfect day. Watching night fall. Admiring the landscape. Drinking in colours. Standing before the horizon. California Dream cloaks the skin with all the emotion of a sunset. California Dream holds onto the moment, gently inflames the senses
and illuminates the last moments of daylight.
“Transposing a California sunset into a perfume. Pairing the bustle of the city with nature that stretches as far as the eye can see. An infinitely blue sky by
day turns iridescent at nightfall... I’ve always loved translating emotion into perfumes. And this particular emotion is incredible.” Jacques Cavallier Belletrud
California Dream, the new creation by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, is an olfactory marvel. The Master Perfumer gave himself no less a challenge than to capture the resonance of a sunset. Seizing the incandescence of the sun’s last rays, glorifying their seemingly infinite shades of pink and, finally, recasting the serenity of summer’s blue, evening sky.
“My starting point was to create warmth that envelops coolness,” explains Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. “There’s always that contrast of how to blend explosive freshness with softer notes that will allow the paradox to express itself fully on the skin. The mandarin has as many facets as the sky at sundown. There’s citrus, but also a floral aspect in addition to the pleasure of the fruit. It creates a horizon that musks elongate with warmth. Ambrette has accents of moist earth and pear. Benzoin has a soft, crackling heat. It’s the last light of daynthat heralds the delights of the night to come.”
“I find the sunset very moving. When I see the sun evaporate into the spellbinding cloak of night, I envision it shining on another part of the world.” Jacques Cavallier Belletrud

A captivating sunset
California Dream harmonises with the polychromatic marvel of a setting sun. It corresponds with the day’s last moments, in the same melodious polyphony of chords. As ardent as the star that sinks below the horizon, mandarin has the incisive energy of its fruity and floral charms.
While it is consumed by joyfulness, the musks of diaphanous ambrette extend its subtle warmth. And the evening gets underway as graceful, vanilla-tinged benzoin envelops the skin in an affectionate balm, as light as a summer night.
Louis Vuitton continues its pictorial dialogue with the artist Alex Israel, who also dressed the perfumes Sun Song, Cactus Garden and Afternoon Swim in his emblematic works. Israel is a multimedia artist anchored in the modernity of the world around him and uses every available vector to express his art. A Los Angeles native, he is strongly influenced by his hometown, a place of incredible contrast aptly named the City of Angels, where the sky he loves to paint is truly unique. By turns cerulean or haloed in pink, the California sky is his infinite passion. He paints it tirelessly, on canvas or across entire walls, just as Hollywood sets were once painted to be filmed in Technicolor. He’s titled these works “Sky Backdrop”, and his signature motif now adorns the packaging of the new perfume California Dream. “Sky Backdrop” also graces the glass perfume bottle itself, rendered subtly iridescent in a palette of transparent pink evaporating into twilight blue. The new, dreamlike fragrance California Dream captures a corner of the sky.
