Born as an independent label, SUNNEI is ready to make a big step toward a reinforced business structure through an investment with Vanguards. While boosting the brand’s potential and existing channels, the agreement aims to support the global expansion of the label’s targets.
SUNNEI was founded in Milan in 2014 by Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo. Since its inception, the brand has worked with the idea of timeless authenticity and quality going beyond fashion trends, which have become the brand’s signature. A simple yet iconic design lexicon, along with a multidisciplinary creative practice, is what best defines the company’s core. An unconventional approach at communication is translated into a complete and cohesive 100% organic strategy, mainly based on social media where the brand created a one-of-a-kind language and a strong and creative community arriving from diverse fields. Vanguards itself was launched as an investment platform in early 2020, derived from CEO Peter Baldaszti’s own experience in partnering with Agoston Gubicza of GB & Partners and the EXIM Cross-border Fund. Through innovative and ambitious business strategies, Vanguards recognises the growth of the fashion and lifestyle industries depends upon a careful synergy of responsible business practice and commercial ambition.
“We are extremely excited by the possibilities that SUNNEI presents to the group, and more widely fashion in general,” says Gubicza. “We always seek to nurture the creative vision of our portfolio brand founders, and will be working closely with Loris & Simone, firstly to empower their creative vision, and secondly to provide all the necessary components of success they need,” says Baldaszti.
The new business plan that comes along with the investment provided by Vanguards combines the entrepreneurial mindset of the fund with SUNNEI’s creative point of view. SUNNEI co-founder Simone Rizzo explains: “We’re enthusiastic to have found an international partner that understands and supports our vision. It is our priority to focus on SUNNEI future and take the brand to the next level by empowering our community in order to create a new creative movement in Milan”.
SUNNEI has always focused on creating an authentic connection between the brand and Milano. The urban regeneration project BIANCO SUNNEI is the physical expression of the team’s need to push boundaries and cross the limits of its practice while Palazzina SUNNEI is the freshly inaugurated creative hub.
The Milanese store will be the starting point of a new retail model that the label has been testing through the years and involves going beyond the traditional B2B model while focusing on the direct to consumer experience. Merging the offline with the in-house online world means empowering the e-commerce platform as well as creating new destination points in targeted cities. This way the brand’s existing key markets, Asia first of all, will be enforced while new ones will be analysed and covered.
With its commercial, operational and strategic structure, Vanguards joins SUNNEI in this new chapter as part of the new wave of Italian creatives. The deal will be crucial to empower the team that Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo have built through these six years of activities, to support the design process in the making of a “lifestyle” line, to confirm and develop long-time partnerships and to encourage new challenges.
