Episode 3 At The Post Office
Starring:
Harry Styles, wearing a T-shirt printed with ‘Gucci Loves Pink Eschatology 1921’ on the front, and 25 on the back. Eschatology is a doctrine that explores the ultimate destiny of humans and universe, combined with the year 1921, the year Gucci was founded; while the number 25 on the back is Alessandro Michele’s favorite number.
Achille Bonito Oliva is an Italian art critic. He is wearing a striped shirt with a cabbage motif and the words “mon petit chou” a French term of endearment meaning my little cabbage. Since the 70s, Achille has taught Contemporary Arts History at La Sapienza University of Rome. He is known for his researches on different key moments in the Art History such as Mannerism, the Historical Avant-Gardes, the Neo-Avant-Gardes. He coined the term of Transavanguardia, an internationally renowned artistic movement of which he is the theorist.
The Stories Behind the Episode
Achille, in the post office, is in a telephone conversation with Harry Styles, who is in a garden, where Achille is speaking in Italian and Harry in English. Achille: “I wanted to tell you a few things I was mulling over. We live in rather tense times, full of conflicts and confrontations, but also of differences that manage to co-exist, of joyful differences. And you can see this manifest itself in many different cultural contexts. Even though the differences persist, art, music, fashion, theatre, cinema. They’re fields you’re familiar with in which creativity takes centre stage.
“Fashion dresses humanity, art lays it bare. And music is a massage to the atrophied muscles of collective awareness. We could say that this is the age of intermingling. An age marked by a certain lack of faith in our future. But one where awareness of the present is vivid. And this is important when you consider that there have been other times, in which the same thing happened and a consideration of the present is very important. Distant times, after the Renaissance.”
Silvia’s character is lost in thought writing a postcard which reads “Though we breath the same air, love is a wonderful thing. Ordinary oxygen doing an extraordinary thing. Your energy looks stunning. A glowing magnetic field. Worth every color of the rainbow my love for you is sealed. I love you.”
The postage stamp she buys for her postcard has the same phrase as the mysterious flyer.
