Antidote curates presents MARIETTE PATHY ALLEN - supported by GUCCI

Culture / Fashion house - 1/24/22

Exhibition from January 27 to February 10, 2022 — 20, rue des Gravilliers - 75003 Paris
Antidote Curates is a new publication every issue of which spotlights the work of a different artist, under the curation of Yann Weber — founder, editor-in-chief and creative director of Antidote.
It will henceforth be published in conjunction with Antidote. The first issue of Antidote Curates, appearing in September with the title “Karma,” contained several new editorial formats and came in an environmentally sound box (the Antidote Box).
This first issue delved into the work of the American photographer Mariette Pathy Allen, who has been immortalizing, non-binary people, transgender people, and transvestites over the course of her travels for the past 40 years. Through the art of photography Allen has shed new light on these people, broadening the general public’s awareness and refining its perception of gender diversity. She has delivered many talks on these subjects as an activist involved with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. Her work has figured in several publications of cultural and academic import and been presented at international exhibitions, while her avant-
garde photographs have entered the collections of a great many American museums of art.
With its retrospective of her career, Antidote Curates is the first publication to present so broad a selection of artist’s photographs, from the late 1970s right up to the 2010s. Some are exclusives.
And now, with the support of Gucci, that first issue of Antidote Curates has led to the artist’s first solo exhibition in Paris. Scheduled to run from January 27 to February 10, 2022, the exhibition doubles as a social project, reflecting the artist’s own commitments. All 36 of the photographs on display will be for sale, along with a selection of 3 posters. Moreover, all of Antidote’s proceeds (40% of the total) will go towards Acceptess-T, a non-profit association that defends the rights of the most vulnerable transgender people in France. Among other things, the association stands against transphobia, serophobia and discrimination against sex workers, helping to provide health services and decent living conditions for people who are often excluded from the workforce and homeless.
