Balenciaga’s ongoing Art in Stores project continues with a series of works by Rosie McGinn exhibited in multiple stores worldwide, including an installation at Balenciaga Paris Avenue Montaigne from September 15th, 2022 during several weeks.
For Balenciaga, the award-winning, multidisciplinary English artist has created several inflated sculptures, the proportions and movement of which create kinetic caricatures of Balenciaga models, first displayed as a line-up in the windows of New York’s Madison Avenue store and then traveling as separate entities to other locations. The third weekend of September, the Ruth Ikondo sculpture, which replicates a look from the Balenciaga Fall 22 runway show, will be in a window of the Avenue Montaigne store.
These installations iterate on an artwork McGinn created in 2018, which depicted a woman’s frenzied reaction to a winning Bingo ticket. The construction references a type of air puppet commonly erected to attract road traffic towards retail sites, which ends up locking viewers into a never-ending loop of rise and fall.
