Dries Van Noten introduces a capsule collection of denim for men and women showcasing a unique, artisanal dyeing technique. The range, which comprises shirting, shorts, skirts and outerwear alongside jeans, marries the thoughtful processes of
Dries Van Noten’s craft with the most authentic and everyday of fabrics.
Artisanship being at the heart of Dries Van Noten, the striking aesthetic of the collection is achieved through an intricate process of bleach dipping, which has evolved across centuries. The result is a bold ombre effect; signature indigo and cerulean blues contrasted with the stripped-out minimalism of bleached white. The workwear staple of denim, reinterpreted with Dries Van Noten’s artistic sensibilities.
Bleach dipping on denim first made its debut at Dries Van Noten in the Spring Summer 2011 Womenswear show, as a medium to explore the way in which Belgian painter Jef Verheyen’s work played with light. The process, where saturated shades transform abruptly into contrasting tones on the same fabric, was inspired by the late artist’s abstract gradations of colour.
The denim capsule range expands the original design from 2011 into a series of dynamic, casual pieces for today.
The collection will be launched exclusively on driesvannoten.com and Dries Van Noten stores as well as at ssense montréal and ssense.com on April 19th.
