Modernity founded from heritage is a strength and value that REMAIN embraces. The Autumn Winter collection is a reflection on the origins of the Birger Christensen design collective, a tribute to the art of craftsmanship, quality of materials and simplicity of form. In journeying to the future REMAIN reflects on the past, becoming the master of their craft.
Tailoring takes centre stage throughout the collection, where the contrast of bold masculine structure and sleek feminine detailing, harmonize to convey a cool and contemporary sophistication. Double breasted overcoats, seen in classic menswear, are paired with form fitting pants and dresses. Traditional three-piece-suiting is shown with sculpted, cinched waist blazers and intricate details. In the tailoring, a common element of the collection is illuminated, where delicate aligns with functional. Seen in graceful satin and lace tops, skirts and dresses, and soft knits reminiscent of ballet uniform.
The collection invites the essence of nature, finding balance amongst the elements. Grounded in a neutral palette of earthy tones, moments of vibrancy stand out in the form of red pink, yellow and ochre, adding life and energy to the grounded collection. Tactility is encouraged in the contrasting fabrics of the collection, from: heavy tweeds, to plush knitwear, fine quality wool and liquid satins. Leatherware is at the heart of REMAIN’s craftmanship, and plays prominently in the Autumn Winter range. Presenting the versatility of the material, leather pieces are introduced in unexpected forms: replicating the refined tailored silhouettes in firm, crunchy leather, and casual oversized bomber jackets in supple, butter soft varieties.
‘This collection is a reflection on the core beliefs on the house. It is an exploration of fabric and form, paying homage to the beauty of simplicity and quality that we find in tailoring and leatherware. Natural, earth-bound fabrics and hues are at the centre of the collection, in contrast to the stark silhouettes of the pieces. Throughout the collection, we have taken a step back from the noise, to embrace the crafts that we have mastered, leaving an impression of an elegant, clean and modern selection.’
