Ralph Lauren presents second drop of collaboration with Naiomi Glasses – Color In Motion

Collaboration - 3/22/24

Ralph Lauren launches the second drop of the Polo Ralph Lauren x Naiomi Glasses Collection – Color in Motion.

This is part of the Company’s inaugural Artist in Residence collaboration with seventh-generation Navajo weaver Naiomi Glasses that is comprised of three seasonal, special-edition product launches through Fall 2024 and celebrates the artistry of timeless Navajo traditions through the lens of Naiomi Glasses.

Color in Motion mirrors the second phase of Glasses’ weaving journey as she began to play with new bold colorways and more contemporary adaptations of traditional Navajo motifs – all while refining her skill in the craft. The collection is a dynamic, sporty, vibrant and joyful reflection of Naiomi’s passion for skateboarding and features playful use of pattern and color on iconic Ralph Lauren silhouettes.

This assortment includes 24 men’s, women’s and unisex apparel and accessories and features traditional Navajo elements through Glasses’ own interpretation, including four-directional crosses, wedge weave motifs and bold hues of turquoise, orange, yellow and red. Standout pieces include a beautiful and vibrant blanket, a sophisticated and striking wool coat and skate-inspired accessories like the functional waistpack.

As with the first drop, Glasses, an avid turquoise and silver collector, curated a unique selection of handcrafted silver and turquoise jewelry from several artisan families throughout the Navajo Nation, Hopi Pueblo, San Felipe Pueblo and Zuni Pueblo — showcased throughout the campaign and available for purchase online and in select flagship doors.

The first and second capsules are accompanied by a campaign shot by Ryan RedCorn (Osage) and Darren Sells (Diné/Navajo) and an anthemic short film series directed by award-winning filmmaker Shaandiin Tome (Diné/Navajo).

Captured in a dynamic and colorful campaign featuring Glasses, her friends and loved ones, Color in Motion offers a glimpse into another part of Naiomi’s story — her love of skateboarding. Glasses first picked up a skateboard at age five to escape the childhood bullying she experienced from being born with a cleft palate. Over the years, her time spent at the skatepark has brought healing and community and has been a pivotal source of inspiration in designing this collection.

With the support of Phoenix Children’s Foundation, Glasses was able to have a life-changing bilateral cleft palate repair. As part of this collaboration, a percentage of the purchase price from sales of drop two of the collection will benefit the Phoenix Children’s Foundation Patient and Family Assistance Funds for Native American Families and the Center for Cleft & Craniofacial Care.

Aligned with its commitment to expand its portrayal of America, Ralph Lauren has been on a journey to shift from inspiration to collaboration with communities that have historically inspired its designs. Intentionally focused on the celebration and preservation of heritage craft, the Artist in Residence program is one way the Company is building a model of collaboration with the artisans that sustain heritage traditions.

The second capsule is available for purchase on RalphLauren.com and in select stores, while quantities last.
