After graduating from Atelier Chardon Savard in 2017, Nicolas Lecourt Mansion launched her own eponymous brand in 2018, with the statement that clothes go beyond gender: an ode to inclusivity enlightened by the mastering of Couture techniques and craftsmanship. Illustrated by strong imagery playing with the codes of Couture and clothes incarnated by different muses, the designer caught the attention of celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Rita Ora, or Christine & The Queen, who posed for his latest lookbook. Nicolas has a strong vision of what contemporary fashion should be. On top of his statement for a genderless wardrobe, the collections are only produced in France in limited quantities, using responsible fabrics. Awarded last year with the ANDAM Creative Label Prize and part of the New Now, the digital window offered by La Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, Nicolas is undoubtedly a talent to keep eyes on.

YOUR FALL/WINTER 2020 COLLECTION IN 3 WORDS:
Political, Sassy, Feminist

YOUR MAIN INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS COLLECTION ?
I worked on the convent of Ursulines, nuns that have been burned during which hunting for misogynistic and domination reasons.
I have explored the concept of hysteria and nervous breakdowns, conceptualised it and transformed it into empowering clothes.

YOUR FAVORITE LOOK FROM THE COLLECTION?
I would say the red tailoring look with orange swarovski crystals is my favorite. I am very happy with the cut, and the color effects of the orange Swarovski crystals on the red silk. The goal was to reproduce the effect of red opal and I think it’s a success !

DID YOU HAVE A SPECIAL “MUSE” IN MIND WHILE WORKING ON THE COLLECTION?
I always have different muses, especially because i mainly work with my friends. For this collection only one piece is named and made after my friend Christine & The Queens (the see-through jumpsuit she wears in the lookbook)

YOUR READY TO WEAR CLOTHES ARE MADE LIKE COUTURE. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO CULTIVATE SAVOIR FAIRE AND CRAFTSMANSHIP ?
You can’t built a house without knowing how to do it and I think It’s the same with clothes. Improving your technique and crafts is essential to develop high quality clothing. A look is a look, but a feeling of a well cut garment, well sized and thought is the most comfortable thing for the body and therefore for the mind.

YOUR COLLECTIONS ARE GENDERLESS, SUSTAINABLE. WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF FASHION ?
Fashion is a reflection of society in general.
If you look around it much about branding, plastic, prentended ecological beliefs and use of queer or foreing cultures for marketing and image reasons. My clothes are sustainable and genderless but i feel like in 2020 this should be normal. I wish for a world were fashion can be a symbol of equality and honesty ; and that the values are not used for a commercial purpose.

WHICH ARTISTS INSPIRE YOU THE MOST?
To list a few i would say Vava Dudu, Susan Meiselas, Pedro Almodovar, Azzedine Alaïa, Christine & The Queens, Dorothea Tanning, Harley Weir, Ibrahim Kamara

THE FILM THAT SPEAKS THE MOST TO YOUR AESTHETIC?
La Piel Que Habito from Almodovar is my favorite movie. I love the costumes, the colors, the story, the set design… It’s an amazing movie.

THE PLACE THAT ALWAYS INSPIRES YOU?
The streets of Paris are for me the most inspiring place. I walk a lot around the city, listening to music without a specific goal and there is a lot to be nurtured with culturally speaking. Also you can see a lot of beauty in people you cross on the road

IF YOU COULD LIVE IN ANY ERA, WHEN WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
I’m really happy to live now because now is the time for change, revolution, new beginnings.
I don’t want go back in the past where society was much more sexist, racist, xenophobic and only obsessed with power and money. Our new generation is more about opening, breaking the borders and to share with everyone.
I wish i can live long enough to witness that new world’s growth
