Christian Dior Fall/Winter 2024 Review

Miss Dior in all of its state.

For the Dior ready-to-wear autumn-winter 2024-2025 fashion show, Maria Grazia Chiuri offers a bold reinterpretation of the transitional era of the 1960s.

The inspiration? A line named Miss Dior, originally born in 1967, and designed to live in harmony with the constantly evolving rhythms of the time. Maria Grazia, the iconic 60-year-old artistic director, is well acquainted with this practical elegance, which has become her signature since she invigorated Dior's lines upon her arrival in 2016.

The silhouettes are fluid and free and allow the body to move without compromises. The palette is understated with shades of beige, black, and white, bringing a discreet versatility to the collection. The skirts and dresses remain modest, just above the knee, opting for a sophisticated and confident look, although perhaps a bit too tamed for some tastes?

Fortunately, a hint of leopard comes to spice things up, injecting a subtle touch of bourgeois decadence (especially for lively evenings!). And lo and behold, dresses inspired by the 1920s Charleston period make their appearance towards the end, throwing confusion into the chronological order. Weren't we in 1960, though? But it doesn't matter, as the large "Miss Dior" inscriptions adorning the skirts add an unexpected touch of street art, reminding us that fashion can be rebellious when it wants to be.

As for accessories, we find the classic retro-chic riding boots and Mary Janes, confirming once again a trend that is already well established and low heeled shoes, for the comfort of women.

In a scenography signed by the Indian artist Shakuntala Kulkarni, the models here embody the strength of a plural feminine, bringing to life the audacity and creativity dear to the spirit of Miss Dior.

In summary, this fashion show does not merely revisit the past; it reinvents it with a cheeky nod to modernity. Maria Grazia Chiuri offers us a deliciously provocative fusion, imbued with the very essence of Dior elegance. A performance reminding today's women that they can conquer the world with the same determination as their predecessors from the 1960s. An irreverent ode to emancipation and carefreeness, in which Miss Dior remains and will forever be a timeless emblem of fashion.
