Officine Générale opens its first U.S. based store in New York

Officine Générale opens its first U.S. based store in New York located at 220 Lafayette Street in SoHo. The 1800 sq ft shop has been designed by designer and founder Pierre Mahéo and his wife Nina Haverkamp along with Paris based architect Juliette Rubel, who has helped realize the designs of Officine Générale’s stores in Paris and London.

The U.S. being Officine Générale’s biggest market outside of France, Mahéo had long desired to open a store in New York. As SoHo, in some ways, has become his second home over the years, it was a natural choice for him to seek for a store space in that neighborhood. The store is located on the ground floor of a building he has been able to secure for office and showroom spaces above.

The ambience of the store is an evolution of Officine Générale’s original concept of Mahéo’s stores in Paris with vintage furniture pieces selected by Mahéo and Haverkamp such as a ‘pigeonhole’ desk by Pierre Jeanneret, a Jacques Hitier “Miami” Daybed and Japanese doors from the 9th century used as frames for some of the French Morse Modernist paintings. All the racks and shelving units have been custom made in France in hammered steeled and in oak wood. Other details that have been replicated from the Paris stores are the light ash coat floor and flannel curtains for the dressing rooms.

“I have been planning this for so long, it feels so great to finally have my stamp in America”, Mahéo stated.

According to Vanessa Bonnefoux, COO, “New York is just the beginning of our expansion in the US following the investment from Untitled earlier this year. We are hoping to open another store on the West Coast sometime next year with more to come over the next few years.

The store will carry a wide selection of both the men’s and women’s collection as well as a newly created collection, Daily Classics, which is exclusive to Officine Générale stores. The Daily Classics consist of essential items in one’s wardrobe, such a chinos, jeans, shirts, t-shirts and hoodies in fabrics and colors Mahéo always loved but made in a sustainable, and an ecologically minded way.
